The Journey of Climate Refugees: A Story to Raise Awareness

This project is an interactive Instagram game designed to shed light on the harsh realities faced by climate refugees, with a focus on a Bangladeshi family living in the Sundarbans region. Through a series of stories and decisions, players follow the life of a mother, her fisherman husband, and their two children as they face the devastating impacts of climate change, including cyclones, rising sea levels, and land salinization.

The game invites players to make critical decisions: should the family stay and rebuild after a disaster, or leave their home in search of safety and opportunity? Each choice leads to new challenges, reflecting the difficult and often impossible trade-offs faced by millions of families worldwide. From temporary shelters to dangerous islands like the Chars, or overcrowded slums in Dhaka, the story portrays the grim options available to those displaced by environmental catastrophes.

The goal of this project is to raise awareness about the growing crisis of climate refugees, particularly in countries like Bangladesh, which faces losing 20% of its land and displacing 25–30 million people by 2050. It highlights not only the human cost of inaction on climate change but also the resilience and courage of those on the frontlines.

By stepping into the shoes of a family affected by these realities, players are encouraged to empathize with the challenges of survival and adaptation in a world increasingly shaped by climate change. This project combines storytelling with education, sparking conversations about climate justice and the urgent need for global solutions to protect the most vulnerable communities.
